Borum Roof Company Pledges $15,000 to Support the Coach Kill Cancer Fund

The Southern Illinois roofing company is helping local donations go further as the first matching sponsor of the 2026 SIU Salukis Blackout Cancer Football Game.

Borum Roof Company has committed $15,000 to the Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation’s Coach Kill Cancer Fund, turning the company’s “Roofing With a Purpose” philosophy into direct support for cancer patients and families throughout Southern Illinois.

Turning Community Giving Into Greater Impact

Borum’s commitment will be used to match donations generated through several Blackout Cancer fundraising efforts, including the Coaches Item auction, QB1 jersey auction and broader campaign giving.

What “Roofing With a Purpose” Means

Borum Roof Company was founded in Southern Illinois by Darrick Borum in 2024. As the company has grown, the idea behind “Roofing With a Purpose” has grown with it: use the success of the business to make a meaningful difference in the same communities the company serves.

“Supporting the Coach Kill Cancer Fund is exactly that – an opportunity to put our resources to work for something bigger than the bottom line.”
— Darrick Borum, Owner, Borum Roof Company

The partnership brings together Borum Roof Company, the SIH Foundation, Saluki Athletics and the broader Southern Illinois community around one goal: helping local cancer patients and their families.

Supporting Patients Right Here in Southern Illinois

The Coach Kill Cancer Fund provides financial assistance to cancer patients receiving treatment throughout the southern 16 counties of Illinois. The fund helps eligible patients with practical expenses that can become difficult to manage during treatment.

According to the SIH Foundation, the fund has supported more than 2,600 patients since it was established.

The 2026 Blackout Cancer Game

The SIU Salukis will host the 2026 Blackout Cancer game on October 24 at 1:00 p.m. at Saluki Stadium in Carbondale. SIU will face Northern Iowa in a game dedicated to honoring cancer survivors, remembering loved ones and supporting people currently battling the disease.

Fans are encouraged to wear black as Saluki Stadium becomes a community-wide show of support for those affected by cancer.
